Supporting Hand Rehabilitation and Making Life Impact – Real Stories from Madglove Users

Glove user with the glove on, happy to see that it helps with hand rehabilitation

Hi there, I’m David, one of the co-founders of Madglove, focusing primarily on our marketing endeavors. I’m thrilled to walk you through our branding and awareness strategy, giving you an insight into its inception and significance.

Logo: colors, shape and font

Our journey commenced with the creation of our emblematic logo—a collaborative effort that engaged every member of our passionate team. This logo encapsulates the essence of Madglove, an harmonious combination of who we are and what we aim to achieve—a reflection of our diverse team and our unwavering commitment.

The choice of circular shapes in our logo symbolizes unity and community, echoing our mission to create a global community for individuals struggling with spasticity and their families, transcending geographical borders and disabilities. The deliberate selection of red and black as our colors stems from a desire to differentiate ourselves. We aimed to veer away from the typical blue and green shades often associated with healthcare, underlining our distinctive approach and our determination to effect positive change, starting with our visual identity. Red, representing health and passion, is the driving force behind Madglove, while black signifies power, elegance, and independence—a vision we hold for those battling neurological diseases.

Our font choice, Quicksand, not only ensures excellent readability but also mirrors the shape of our logo, imbuing a sense of completeness to our identity. If you’re curious about the five dots or circles within our logo, it’s a simple yet profound representation of our five fingers. This isn’t just about creating gloves; it’s a symbol of unity, a declaration that we stand together with a shared purpose—“united with one purpose.”

Our name

Why MADglove? The acronym “MAD” might initially evoke thoughts of madness, a quality needed to boldly challenge the complexities of the healthcare sector. But fear not, it’s not just madness – it’s “Medical Assisted Device,” a term that encapsulates our purpose. It’s also a delightful nod to our co-founder, Madalina, who initially came up with the idea in 2019. If you haven’t already, I invite you to explore the insightful article she recently wrote, shedding light on the roots of Madglove and our unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities. This heartfelt mission is at the core of all we do.

Awareness strategy

As an emerging startup, making our presence known is a challenge. To tackle this, we’ve strategically partnered with influential players in the Amsterdam startup and health sectors. You’ll find a fascinating article by Toby about our robust support ecosystem, offering a deeper understanding of our collaborative efforts.

We’re highly active on social media, engaging in numerous competitions and maintaining a strong presence within the startup community. However, we’re not stopping there. We’re actively seeking rehabilitation specialists and patients to participate in our online survey. Additionally, we’re on the lookout for potential partners willing to test our innovative gloves, a crucial step in our product development process.

Next Move

Our next ambitious move involves a timeless approach—sending 250 rehabilitation specialists in the Netherlands a bold red envelope, containing a brochure detailing who we are, our mission, and how they can help us empower millions of individuals with spasticity, enhancing their independence and quality of life. We’re reaching out, actively seeking referrals or direct candidates for this crucial endeavor.

We deeply appreciate your support and encourage you to stay tuned for more updates as we continue on this incredible journey.

The Journey to Independence – A New Path of Hand Rehabilitation

Why a hand rehabilitation tool, you might ask? It is estimated that one in four people will experience a stroke in their lifetime, with the likelihood of occurrence only rising. The consequences of a stroke often affect hand mobility, reducing the ability to perform even the simplest daily tasks and consequently decreasing independence that is crucial for everyday life.

Despite the increasing prevalence of strokes, the rehabilitation process and its efficiency remain stagnant. Taking this into account, our CEO Madalina, along with co-founders Cara, Tobi, David, and Sitah, decided to dedicate their knowledge and previous scientific experience to create Madglove—a simple, easy-to-use rehabilitation glove that empowers patients to actively participate in their own rehabilitation journey.

Independence has always been a key motivation for us. Our goal was to create a tool that is simple and easy to use on its own, without any external help, fostering independence while supporting and improving hand mobility through seamless integration into daily life. Our rehabilitation glove helps users regain the ability to perform daily tasks without needing extra support from loved ones or caretakers, allowing them to bring back life fulfillment by returning to their passions and hobbies.

Enhancing Life Quality, Transforming Daily Lives, and Taking Charge of Your Own Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is not just about supporting hand mobility; it’s about transforming the quality of life. It’s about people and the impact we can make through our work. This focus has always been, and will continue to be, our driving force at Madglove.

The stories of our glove testers encourage us every day. Seeing the changes and improvements in their quality of life, alongside the usual consequences of rehabilitation, and witnessing the true, valuable reactions of our users are irreplaceable experiences. For instance, enabling one of our testers to return to his passion—playing guitar—was such an honor for us. You can witness his journey yourself in this video. See our glove in action

One heartwarming testimonial we received after a testing session exemplifies the impact we strive for: “At Madglove, I felt welcomed, I felt free, and I felt good. While wearing the glove, I could pick up things which I couldn’t do for the last 12/13 years. It works! I thought it couldn’t be true, but it is! I am happy! The glove can support me. I think the glove can increase my quality of life.” She even mentioned that after the session, she almost cried because of the experience. You can listen to the full testimonial here!

These stories lie at the core of Madglove—people, their lives, and their stories. There is no better feeling for us, the Madglove team, than hearing such encouraging words and knowing we can actually impact individuals’ lives and help them in their journey toward independence and a fulfilling life.

However, the work we do would not be possible without our incredible community and partners, to whom we are immensely grateful. Together, we can create change and strive every day towards our mission: to make disability just another aspect of diversity and support daily independence for a better, more joyful life.
